E3 2015. Everything that Matters.
E3 2015 was arguably the best E3 in over a decade. Gone are the days of treating this event like everyone watching is a stock holder. Gone are the days of shepherding the flock with only a title and a 15 second teaser. And gone are the days of unessential extras being forced down our throats like TV and Kinect *shudders*.
We welcome into a new era where the companies and publishers are bringing us something we all want from video games, joy. At E3 2015 it felt like the people who develop and build the games we immerse ourselves in really cared about what they were giving us, showing us actual gameplay and being unafraid of what alpha footage could do to “hurt” pre-order sales.
Hot returning IP’s like Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Gears 4, Fallout 4, Kingdom Hearts, another hilarious South Park RPG, and Doom graced the show floor. Followed closely by new and fresh IP’s like Cuphead, Gigantic, Battleborn, For Honor, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Firewatch. It would be unfair for me to not mention The Last Guardian, and everyone is already shitting the bed over Star Wars Battlefield, including myself. I’ve never wanted a game this bad in quite some time, hype nearly a decade in the making.
I’ll be honest with you though, it wasn’t all glitz and glamour, for me anyways. I’ve never been a fan of Halo, so all the time spent on Halo 5 had fallen on deaf ears. Microsoft’s Hololens presentation lost all of its credibility when its field of view wasn’t actually a true representation but rather an exaggeration.
Nintendo hasn’t been on my radar for quite some time now, I heard they had a pretty good E3 2015 but I don’t want a Wii U and have no plans on getting one, and those damn Amiibos are so hard to get NOT on the grey market, nothing from Nintendo is worth my time or money.
I chuckled to myself at the Square Enix presser, surprised that people were even watching it, but the love for Kingdom Hearts is strong, just not with me. My memories of that game are muddled with a psychotic narcissistic ex-girlfriend, so it’s not all Goofy’s fault.
So here’s what you’ve all been waiting for, everything that mattered at E3 2015!
Dice’s Star Wars Battlefront gameplay during the EA presser literally broke my hype meter. Just shattered it.
Bethesda blew me away with not only its long awaited Fallout 4 announcement, but also with just how expansive that universe has become.
I agree with Patrick Klepek that I’ll believe this is a game when I actually get my hands on it. The visuals of Cuphead are just incredible.
I got my hands on Gigantic last year at PAX 2014 and I was really impressed, now more so that I’ve been playing SMITE (a similar MOBA). The ultra stylizing look and streamlined gameplay makes it oh so appealing.
And lastly a game that I thought I would never see on a console of course was picked up by Sony, Firewatch will be making an appearance on the PS4! I’ve got goosebumps so hard right now…
Obviously I could just stack this post up with amazing trailer after amazing trailer, but that’s just not my style. I have a love for certain titles, these were just a few of my favorites from E3 2015.
