The Best Video Game Soundtrack

This post has been rattling around in my head for quite some time, not to mention the best video game soundtrack in question has been one of my favorites since it’s inception many, many, years ago, dating myself, damn I’m old. This isn’t about the best video game score, like something you’d hear from The Last of Us or Uncharted, I guess I could have included some examples that weren’t Naughty Dog, but meh, too bad, they’re notably great scores that no one can argue with.

Instead this post focuses on the actual songs of the best video game soundtrack, which is so absurdly one’s opinion that I had to make it my opinion on my blog. Isn’t it great? I do what I want. Even though it’s strictly one’s opinion I’ve had many discussions, some bordering on arguments about this subject that I actually have other examples of what others think is “the best” video game soundtrack, my opinion obviously weighs the heaviest so…

Fans of underground hip hop in the late 90’s early 2000’s sight Grind Session for it’s heavy hip hop influenced soundtrack, would be a great soundtrack if it wasn’t poisoned by Godsmack and Saliva, another personal favorite game of mine, Incredible Crisis, has heavy influences of ska from Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, then of course there’s the highly addictive and energy inducing tunes of Crazy Taxi arcade. Don’t lie to me and say doesn’t immediately pop into your head when you see anything Crazy Taxi. And let’s not forget  the hours wasted away freestyling everything you could muster in ATV Offroad Fury whilst listening to Soundgarden’s “Spoonman”. While all of these are great, they don’t compare to my first love, Street Sk8ter.

So I like ska…a lot, maybe too much, but who can blame me, it’s just so damn uplifting, and the soundtrack of Street Sk8er just begs you to keep playing regardless if you really want to play a skateboarding game that became obsolete once Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater took to the scene a year later. But I didn’t care, I still came back to Street Sk8er just for the good vibes and great tunes… and maybe for the inline skater since I was really into that scene at the time. Don’t judge me.

I boast Street Sk8er as the best video game soundtrack all the time because you just can’t beat Less Than Jake, H20, and I Against I, you just can’t. Try me, I’d love to hear some more great video game soundtrack suggestions, we’ll argue all night to the sweet caress of Op Ivy, The Aquabats, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish and other great ska bands.
