Pretty Deadly #1 from Kelly Sue is pretty artsy
with Emma Rios create a psychedelic western that’s filled with magic and lore. The book is as poetic as it is beautifully penciled, but that doesn’t mask the fact that I just couldn’t get into it. See what I did there, compliments, then slowly let it down.
Pretty Deadly #1 has a wonderfully written script coming from Kelly Sue, the problem is, it’s almost too smart for me. You can tell she’s an incredibly intelligent writer, but I can’t read into what exactly anything means. This disconnect between myself and the content left me lost, I continued wandering the pages and enjoying Rios’es crafty art, but completely clueless to just what exactly was going on.
Don’t let my dense grasp on what Pretty Deadly #1 is impact whether you buy the book, I do strongly suggest you read it. The book is just too cryptic and artsy not to, you kind of have to experience it for yourself. Dive into something different.
