Earth Night preview
Sony’s PlayStation Experience fan service extended far past AAA, in fact, Nerd Farm spent most of our time in the trenches of the “DEVotion” section (large area devoted to small indie titles coming to PS4 and Vita) talking to as many devs as possible, as well as getting our hands on as much actually gameplay as humanly possible.
First up was the not so endless runner Earth Night from Cleaversoft. Endless runners are extremely popular right now, but Earth Night with it’s quirky story, characters, design, music and actual end makes it something different and fresh to the popular market. So we decided to give it a few runs then spoke with Rich Siegel, founder of Cleaversoft and developer about Earth Night.
Earth Night‘s site has this opening tag line, “Dragons have taken over the Earth. It’s up to a 14 year old high-schooler and an unemployed photographer to stop them.” Honestly that’s all I need to get me interested in really any game, but Earth Night takes it a few steps further. Earth Night‘s basic controls and concept are very simple, the joystick is your anchor, you run and slow yourself down while attempting to pick up junk and dragon eggs until you reach the head of the dragon you’re riding where there, you’ll attempt to stabby stab his skull until he dies. This simple concept takes time to master, when you add baddies and opportunities to gain health and multipliers for giant point boosts, Earth Night becomes something even more than a runner with a story. It becomes and addiction.
Danny over at Fat Beard was determined to win an Earth Night t shirt by scoring 50,000 points (not an easy task) and ended up with a 23x multiplier that was just insane. Great run, good fun, free t shirt.
Look forward to seeing Earth Night on PS4 sometime next year.
