JH Williams III and W Haden Blackman leave Batwoman

Well DC Comics has somehow did it again, driven away JH Williams III and W Haden Blackman, one of their best writing teams over editorial conflicts of interest. A report coming from Comics Alliance and directly from his blog, JH Williams III and W Blackman leave Batowman, walking away from the book. Reasons a plenty, JH seemed tired of “eleventh hour changes”, and the ditched Killer Croc origin plans, which altered the very important story arc that would finally let Kate and Maggie wed.

I don’t know the politics that go into writing and then publishing comic books, I’m not even going to pretend to, but it seems that DC has a large disconnect from not only their creative workforce, but from their fans also. Batwoman is not a quick-catch-up-to-Marvel gay superhero, she is a genuine openly gay American superhero who had plans to marry her partner, in an effed up world, full of effed up people. And this is not just what the fans want, this is what DC needed! There’s a paradigm shift in America, one where the support for gay rights has never been stronger. So now it seems DC is also at a disconnect with America’s political climate as well as their creative teams and fan base. It just doesn’t make sense.

I think it is important however to point out that this doesn’t appear to be “DC is anti gay marriage”, it’s more of a “DC is anti any superhero marriage.”

Batwoman IS my favorite book on the market, and after issue #26 it will no longer be in my pull box. Looks like Aquaman is the last DC book I’ll be pulling for each month.
