Friday the 13th: The Game Kickstarter

I was literally talking to the wife last night about how I needed something to write about, I just didn’t know what. Nic and myself will be talking about more Smite over our Nerd Farmcast later this week, but I needed something now, I needed something creative and substantial, then Friday the 13th: The Game fell right in my lap.

Gun Media has been gifted the rights to the Friday the 13th name and have rocketed their 1v7 multiplayer Summer Camp into the official Friday the 13: The Game. The catch, they need your support, and you’re going to give it to them.

There’s so much to the Friday the 13th: The Game right now, and I’ll try to give you a gist of just what exactly is up with this “choose your own horror” survival game.

Gun Media has created an Evolve-esque type multiplayer where instead of hunting down one giant monster, you’re counselors being hunted down by one monster, Jason Voorhees. The counselors will be class based type characters like “The Jock”, “The Nerd”, “The Edgy-Guy”, “The Girl Next Door”, etc each with their own set of special skills. The thing is, none of them are super powerful versus Jason.

Do you go out on your own and try to escape, thinking large numbers draw attention? These are some of the questions Gun Media is loving about Friday the 13th: The Game, and it’s a lot of the reasons I myself have backed this project. That and all of the original horror masters are also part of this project, did I forget to mention that? Yeah, Friday the 13th original Producer Sean S. Cunningham, death master Tom Savini, chills inducing composer Harry Manfredini, and the killer himself, Kane Hodder. BRAIN EXPLOSION!

Readers of the blog know I love horror, and sure the Firday the 13th game for Nintendo is a classic, but it sure isn’t that “fun”. Gun Media are trying to develop a game that’s both frightening and fun, but they can’t do it without Kickstarter.

Friday the 13th: The Game ends next month on, heh, Friday the 13th and is asking for $700,000 (which is literally nothing in game development these days) to complete this slasherfest by October of 2016 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Consoles my friends!!! A kickstarter game that will launch on consoles! Even more of a reason to back it.

Here’s the link to  Kickstarter.

I’ve been working during the betas unfortunately. I’ve been keeping up with the streams and the game looks great.
