Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze review
Out this last month on the , Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze! Unique in that it is one of the few Wii U titles that doesn’t use the gamepad itself in conjunction with your TV, this is one long love letter to a time near forgotten on the SNES with the original Donkey Kong Country!
From the top down, everything about Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will remind you of the original, in a good way though! From barrels, to the K O N G letter collection, everything’s back. Even Diddy and the gang! Each other Kong offers a unique ability, as well as counting for an effective extra life. There’s a store with tons of items, and as per Nintendo’s modus operandi, you can collect statues of all your favorite Donkey Kong characters.
Controls are solid, and I didn’t really get a sense of not being able to control my character at any point, but I can confirm the game is significantly harder to play while intoxicated. Graphically speaking, the game is in HD and remains true to the original sprites, I mean it’s basically playing an updated version of the SNES Classic.
I would definitely suggest giving it a shot, especially if you have a Gamefly account, but I’m throwing down 4/5 stars on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
