Your old pal, Srsbizniz here! Last night, a group of friends and I decided to make the journey (80 miles +) north of Olympia to Everett, WA where the AFK Tavern awaited our arrival. So here I am back from my travels, to give you the low down on the joint!
From the outside, one would think nothing of the building; A small brown building, with only a couple signs giving clues to what lays inside. However, upon entering, you are greeted by friendly, albeit slightly apathetic staff who will quickly try to seat you or place you on the waiting list. And boy! What a list! If you are not 21+ expect to be waiting in line for a long time! A lot of the tables feature TV’s with your favorite video games for you to play during your meal which I thought was pretty cool, even if the largest TV was being used by four 11 year old kids, attempting to play Modern Warfare 3.
For those of you who ARE 21+ then you can abscond directly to the bar! The bartender was everything you would expect: Attractive, slightly steampunk, boisterous and polite. Her drinks were made well and she was patient enough to put up with us trying to figure out which specialty drink we wanted to order. There is even a vending machine for games, dice and cards!
The food was amazing too! Great portions, awesome flavor and just plain good eats. Over all, we had a good time, even if we moved tables 3 times, but I gotta say my only complaint which is kind of a big one, was the fact that one of the tables we sat down at had ants walking across it. When I politely informed the waiter of this, he replied that he “Could wipe down the table for us”. And yes, I get that he was trying to be helpful, but pestilence doesn’t just go away after being wiped off the table.
Complaints aside, I would give this bar a 3.5 / 5 for friendly bartender, awesome food and a good place to enjoy nerdy things with your friends. I think Afk Tavern would greatly improve with a building expansion but everywhere else they’ve got the bases covered. Check them out online at www.afktavern.com
