In Fable Heroes, Which Path Will You Choose?

This last week, Fable Heroes was released. An arcade style, beat’em up which focuses on a 4 player style party game with mini-games thrown in for variety. You can play as one of several familiar faces from the Fable franchise that include The Hero (Fable 3), The Heroes of Might, Magic and Skill among a few other unlock able characters. Each character has their own signature moves and includes the ability to purchase greater skills and weapons.

Not your father's party game!

The game starts on a traditional board, a la Mario Party, but you are not required to roll a dice to proceed. You are allowed to move to unlocked areas of the game with a flick of the left stick, and further levels are unlocked via completion of prior levels. You will always play in a party of 4 whether you choose to play alone, or with an Xbox party member. The AI in the game is not completely stupid nor will it eat up all the coins and power ups all over the level. Speaking of rewards, gold coins spill out of all of your enemies, and you can also gain power ups and rewards via chests spread through levels. Buyer beware though, some chests may come alive and proceed to attempt your murder! The HP resource the game is outfitted with functions much like any Zelda game, whereas you have several hearts that need to remain filled lest you be turned to a ghost, where upon you will float through the level until you find another heart to achieve life again!

The fight always goes right! Unless it goes left!

While you can’t operate camera angle changes, the game does a good job of making sure you never get into a weird spot where things are hard to see. And at the end of the levels, you will find party style mini-games that allow for greater rewards. Upon completion of these mini-games, you are taken to a Monopoly style game board which allows you to roll a dice to place your marker on different power up squares, and gives you the option to spend your earned gold in order to buy powers, abilities, or weapons.

Now while the Fable series has declined in that last couple iterations, you may find Fable Heroes to your liking. I mean if you enjoy good clean fun and a refreshing take on an older game series! And hey, it’s only $10! So give the free trial a shot, what do you have to lose?
