Wanna Smash Some Planets? Help Uber, Help You!

With the success of both Monday Night Combat and Super Monday Night Combat under their belt, Uber Entertainment is looking to expand their collection with none other than an RTS game, on a much bigger scale…but they need your help.

Boom goes the asteroid!

The game is called Planetary Annihilation, and you do just that. It’s a real-time strategy game that expands the battlefield into space, across solar systems, in which you can use the planets and asteroids as weapons to destroy the enemy. However, it doesn’t end there. Planetary Annihilation also lets you create randomized or customized maps you can share with friends, allows for advanced modding for the hard-core gamer, and hopes to offer regular content expansions.

This afternoon, Uber launched a Kickstarter to help fund the game. They need your help in reaching $900,000 to help make the game. According to a PCGamer interview with Jon Mavor, co-founder and CTO of Uber Entertainment, Mavor gives reason for the need of the Kickstarter: “The problem with an RTS game is A: we don’t really do stuff with publishers that much anyway, if at all. And B: they would never fund it, because… It’s just not a hot genre. It’s not a genre where you can go out and make a deal and get a game done very easily.”

In another PCGamer interview, Mavor talks about the different complexities of the game. You can have a quick, non-complex game–or–you can have a huge, complex map with vast armies.

All I can say is, it’s about time a new RTS game has made its way through the idea table. Real-time strategy is a dying genre that needs resuscitation–and Planetary Annihilation can do just that. You can help get the game going by donating just a few bucks or many. Will you help join the Annihilation?
