“Genesis”
Punk Rock Jesus from the mind of Sean Murphy is a book that’s more real than most of us would like to believe. Murphy has taken the worst of reality television and given it almost God like powers, birthing a creature that’s as unfathomable as it is real. PRJ #2 will show you just how much perception matters to humanity.
In the second issue of this amazing six part series, Gwen is suffering from severe depression. Rick Slate, the dirt bag producer is formulating “miracles” performed by the “Christ” clone to up ratings. Slate has gone to great lengths to make anything and everyone a ratings grabber. You learn more about Thomas and of course find out, behind his cold, heartless demeanor, he’s actually an intelligent and smart individual who cares very much about the people he’s protecting on the island. I’m not going to spoil the rest of this great issue for you, so that’s all you’re getting out of me this round.
Sean Murphy has created a very thought provoking book. Everything seems so distant and far out there, but then almost feels too close for comfort. It’s on the cusp of reality. Cloning, reality television, the New American Christians, everything could be a reality tomorrow. If you haven’t read this book yet, I highly suggest you do, and think about what the human race can accomplish. It’s actually a very chilling thought.
