Nothing Really Abnormal Here…

For the first 3 minutes of Anomaly: Warzone Earth, I was riveted. The cut-scene, the music, the atmosphere all playing together gave the game a look and feel like it might be the arcade version of a summer blockbuster. However, upon starting the game, you are thrust into one of the most boring tower defense/RTS games of all time.

I guess I should have probably turned left at that last intersection.

Apparently, in 2018, global military forces are thrust into conflict with an extraterrestrial force housed in domes called The Anomaly. Also, the entire global military is made up of British people. I don’t have problems with either of these, it’s the terrible game play that I take issue with. You play as single soldier in charge of a small platoon of vehicles and mobile artillery units. You are also given a holographic view of the city that you are in, that allows the player to change the direction their forces are moving. This is completely and utterly, stupid. You have 4 units that move on a rail, endlessly and unrelentingly towards the end of the route while you run around as a soldier providing power ups and health for your men.

I can’t see any conditions where this game would be worth the $10 buy in price. But maybe you like boring games with little to no control…then this might be right up your alley.
