In the wee early hours of this morning, while most of us slept, Nintendo and their COO Reggie Fils-Aime were up-and-at-em spitting out all sorts of Wii U announcements. Let me cut to the chase and give you all the ish I know you want to hear.
The Wii U will release on November 18th, that’s even before Japan’s December 8th launch day, just in time for the holiday rush, in two complete packages. The Basic Set will cost $299, coming in the natural Nintendo white and have 8GB of memory. The Deluxe set will set you back $349, come in the naughty Nintendo black (I should really copyright these) with 32GB of memory, stands for your system and GamePad, a copy of NintendoLand. Which subsequently means the first pack doesn’t come with any game at all. Both packs will indeed come with their own GamePad, Wii U sensor, and a HDMI cable surprisingly.
Nintendo was also excited to let everyone know that the Wii U will launch with over 50 titles! Let’s be fair, they were talking about their launch “window” which will span from November 18th 2012 until March of 2013. Most notable was Bayonetta 2 that will be a Wii U exclusive, until Platinum needs more money and it should become available for every other console in about one to two years.
The long 50 game list can be found over at joystiq in an easily accessible link for you here. Games to pay attention to: Mass Effect 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Assassin’s Creed 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Skylanders Giants.
I’ll be honest with you, I really don’t care about anything Wii U. It’s a little too much, too late. Welcome to the HD era Nintendo, we’ve been here for a decade. It’s like Eastern Europe finally getting episodes of Baywatch. I had a chance to play the Wii U at PAX and was really discouraged with the clunky Wii U GamePad, a periferal that forces you to lift it up constantly and is too big to rest in your hands comfortably. I’m very interested to see what Nintendo plans to do now that they’re committed.
