We all knew it was coming. The biggest and best in the series yet. I’m not gonna give you any spoilers on what happens, even though I really, really, really want to. You’re gonna have to play on your own to find out who my new favorite character is. However, I will give you the low down on what I like about the game, and how Bioware has improved the title from the last two iterations.
Firstly, how about addressing some of the complaints of the community. There was a major outcry for having “dumbed down” the game from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2, forcing it to be more of an action game than an RPG. I agreed, that it was altered for a different genre, but I still enjoyed the game as a whole. In Mass Effect 3, you will find that you are now able to gain XP during missions instead of a post mission add-in, which allows you to progress further along your characters spec path. And while there is no working micro-management system for gear, you will still have ample unlocks as well as upgrades. (Also a little bird told me that a certain space hamster might be running around in Jack’s old quarters).
As far as combat is concerned, everything seems to be streamlined. The HUD is like a high school reunion; Familiar faces, yet slightly different. HP and Shields are displayed over top of your two companions, and each buff that character currently has equipped is displayed next to their charming little face. Also, there is now an option to totally Splintercell that ass, when you are trying to remain hidden, whilst taking out the baddies.
Leveling up is as sleek and smooth as it ever was. Now instead of 4 brackets, you are given six to choose from. The first three are give-me’s arranged in a straight line, then 4,5 and 6 are your choice of two per tier. This allows for a degree of uniqueness between everyone’s Shepard.
And lastly, for those who import their Shepard from ME2, you will find that you start at whatever level you had obtained in ME2. This allowed my Shep’ to start at Lvl. 25 and have 2 talent trees maxed out from the get go.
Now if you want all the juicy spoilers, you should probably stay tuned for our Nerd Farmcast EP 2 this week, when I go into great lengths to talk about EVERYTHING Mass Effect 3.
But for now, “I should probably go”
