Where are the Creative IP’s?

Just a thought, but is anyone else tired of the Tower Defense formula?  For the last couple years, this idea has been almost as popular as throwing in zombies to sell ANY video game. From the original DotA to Dungeon Defenders, it seems like the public isn’t getting tired of this over saturated genre. And when I say formula, I would like this to extend to the idea of just not creating anything original. Granted I am not a game designer, but how hard is it to generate new ideas?

Hail to the king baby!

In the mid to late 90′s we saw a rash of first person shooters pop up because two companies generated the Doom and Duke Nukem titles. Both took the idea of handing the player a gun and letting them run wild in areas with little consequences.  In the years that followed, improvements were made and weapons were added.

But something happened….

Did the public become complacent? Do we not expect much from our companies except to shill out some bastardization of something we once loved without question. And like mindless hordes of undead, we stand in line for hours to get our hands on this “brand new” machination, only to find out that it is simply reheated leftovers from what they were cooking before?

I guess all I am saying is: We the consumer public need to hold the companies to a higher standard. They want to make money and we want to play video games. Those two should go hand in hand. But what we don’t want is the garbage they scraped from the bottom of the production barrel being inserted into our consoles. Just saying…
