Enlisting the community to help select new titles
Today in a press release, Valve announced Steam Greenlight. Steam Greenlight will essentially let developers and publishers campaign or rally supporters of the Steam community to say whether their game can be released on Steam or not. Steam Greenlight will work in conjunction with Steam Workshop that organizes customer ratings and feedback.
“Making the call to publish or not publish a title isn’t fun,” said Anna Sweet, at Valve. “Many times opinions vary and our internal jury is hung on a decision. But with the introduction of the Steam Workshop we realized an opportunity to enlist the community’s help as we review certain titles and, hopefully, increase the volume and quality of creative submissions.”
Steam Greenlight will launch August 30th and sounds like a great opportunity for even more smaller developers to put their mark on the ever growing indie scene. Something like this is expected from a forward thinking company like Valve. Well played.
