I’m going to be the first to admit. I’m not a reader–I usually wait for the movie to come out..or the video game. The last time I finished a book was about 5 years ago. And before that….ummm….I have no clue. But while at the Seattle Geek Girl Con, I had the opportunity to meet an amazing, talented author and fellow female nerd, Natalia Lynn. Against my countless efforts to pass on reading her book, The History of Ours- Book 1: The Guardians, Natalia promised me it was a good read. I finally gave in when my wonderful boyfriend purchased it for me. I’m glad he did.
From the very beginning, I was hooked. Her writing style just leaves you wanting more and there’s never a dull moment. The History of Ours- Book 1: The Guardians is the first book in the 3-part series. It is about a woman named Grace River26D who discovers her parents murdered and is forced to leave the only place she knows as home. The story is about her journey outside of what she knows as civilization and her struggle to survive amongst the wilderness and unnatural, manmade forces.
I can’t divulge too much as any more information will keep you from truly enjoying the excitement you get when you just HAVE to know what is going to happen next. I will divulge this though–this 1984/Brave New World-esque masterpiece has the theme “Trust Evolution” and has action, adventure, love, sex, death, and explosions. You’ll find yourself laughing, crying, and saying “OMG what is going on?!?!” And I’ll be the first to say, this lovely young lady really knows how to write a steamy sex scene, even if it’s just two people making out. My VENUS! (You’ll get that reference if you read the book…which you should. Really. Really, REALLY).
I’m no professional when it comes to reading a book and analyzing it, but I will say, as a normal, yet geeky individual who enjoys a good science-fiction story, this is a must read. The only downside is it hasn’t been edited or published, so there are some grammatical errors, but those still don’t take away from the amazingness that is The History of Ours- Book 1: The Guardians. The website even has a trailer. What other book have YOU ever read/heard of that has it’s own trailer?!
