Ghost Recon Online, Quality F2PS

I always cringe whenever I hear the words Free 2 Play in reference to most games. I think it drastically drops the quality of the community in many cases, because I function under the premise that an admission fee keeps out a whole other level of trolls and baddies. Ubisoft seems to be intent on me eating the crow as it were with this latest Gamescom announcement. And I’m ok with that!

What they have decided to do with Ghost Recon, is basically give away the multiplayer mode online in the F2P format which allows players to earn rewards through gameplay or buy them out right with real world currencies to enhance their characters arsenal. I think this is a very cool idea for a couple reasons:

  1.  It allows console players who have pc gaming friends to join in with their brethren in online skirmishes
  2.  Ghost Recon isn’t an MMO, it’s straight up, just a shooter and so there is no real admission fee needed for a certain level of player

I would totally love to see more companies do this with their franchises. I mean Battlefield 3 was already half way there, but I think EA can still milk a little bit more out of that cow before they put it out to pasture, what with Premium Edition, and the “Cheater” packs, while all along still requiring players to purchase the game itself and if you got a used copy, slap on another $10 for the Online Pass they are so fond of.

So if you’re a fan of shooters, squad based combat, and team oriented games, hop on over to the Ghost Network and take a peek. After all it’s free!
