Yesterday I made my way over to Cosmic Comics! in Las Vegas for Free Comic Book Day and was very pleased with the turnout. People in costumes of their favorite characters whether they were from comics, video games, or even their favorite Cosmic Comics! employees themselves. Heroclix demonstrations were going off without a hitch and quickly gaining popularity. Hourly raffles for free swag and the coveted Avengers #1 raffles had everyone in a frenzy. Oh, and did I mention the Free Comics were flying off of the shelves. There were so many great free comics to choose from that it just felt right snagging almost every title.
I decided to take advantage of the 20% off back issues and trades by picking up The Dead and the Dying from the Brubaker and Phillips Criminal series, completed the Brood saga with Uncanny X-Men #234, and finally bought the always hateful Milk & Cheese hardcover. Natalie of the LEET Ladies with Brittany of Cosmic Comics! fame thought it hilarious to give me double bunny ears in a photo op (pic will be up courtesy of Cosmic Comics! soon), and then I decided to grab a few other lovely LEET Ladies for more paparazzi pleasing.
As I had hoped, Free Comic Book Day was a great experience. Looking through all the back issues and talking with so many other comic book nerds was a lot of fun. Of course a day of free comic books wouldn’t be complete without a free movie and I was gung ho to see The Three Amigos at Rave from MaximuM Comics, but ultimately bitched out and fell asleep. I swear by the hammer of Thor that I will make the next Rave movie night. Until next time Nerds…
