Deadlight Hits Close To Home For The PNW.

The zombie apocalypse in Seattle!

Do you like zombies? Or do you love killing them rather? And not to alienate any readers, but I know a lot of our readers are also from the Pacific Northwest so you might be surprised that we had a zombie outbreak in 1986. Well not really, but Deadlight lets us pretend it did.

The game functions in what the creators are calling “2.5D” which means while the player proceeds through the game on a 2D plane, zombies can come from the foreground and the background, meaning you are never quite safe. But if you have seen any zombie films in the last 10 years you already know “no where is safe, only safer”. Deadlight is also extremely dark and gritty which makes sense, but I didn’t feel that it was over the top in any way. I enjoyed the small puzzles of dropping heavy objects on zombies as well as electrifying them or dismembering them via axe attack.

While you are a survivor, you are not an invincible hero/protagonist. Randal has an HP bar as well as an energy meter which will slowly decrease as you are climbing on objects and jumping, but quickly drains when swinging the axe, so you may want to avoid direct conflict and see if you can’t just outsmart the zombies.

I think players who are looking for a more original zombie apocalypse experience, or if you liked Limbo, you should really check out Deadlight. You will definitely get into the atmosphere playing and the intensity is almost palpable at times. Overall a great experience.
