Aliens: Colonial Marines was not only playable at this years PAX Prime, but Gearbox Software also allowed expo goers to try their hand at the newest “Escape” multiplayer mode. Expo goers were put head to head verses the developers of Aliens: Colonial Marines, and in most cases, was a blood bath. With the experienced devs sprinting through the shadows as their favorite xenomorphs, lowly noobs were left in awe as their body bled out onto the space station floor.
As you’ve probably already assumed, the “Escape” mode has four Marines trying to get out of a pickle against four other players using xenomorphs. Marines aren’t completely defenseless, they can choose three different weapons in addition to the classic motion detector. The action is hectic and requires a great deal of teamwork. Watching four red dots coming your way in four different directions was intense and difficult to relay to your three other teammates. Every sound in the game is incredibly authentic, the blasters and aliens shrieks give you goosebumps.
Even though Aliens: Colonial Marines isn’t coming out until February of 2013, my early impressions after getting my hands on the “Escape” mode are extremely positive. I can’t wait to have survival fun with all my friends. Friends that scream in fear together, stay together.
