Agent 47 is back for another kill!
Another smash at PAX was Hitman : Absolution. Burke hated it, but between you and me, he’s better at stealth games which involve hiding under a box in plain site and require little to no actual stealth..wink wink! I personally loved that you have so many options to take down your targets. The freedom that Hitman: Absolution delivers is actually refreshing regardless of this being an incredibly detailed murder simulation.
The build demo started in some sort of Chinatown market with what I assumed to be some sort of mob boss talking on his cell phone in the middle of a gazebo as my target. As I strolled 47 through the market, I was able to perceive multiple choices for the removal of my intended target: I could drop a stack of palates on his head, or maybe I wanted to poison him with fugu fish, simply shoot him in the face and deal with body guards or cops, or maybe try something a little less obvious like pushing him into a burning pit.
I chose to watch my target wander through the market, angrily yelling into his cell phone paying no attention to me, the giant, bald white guy in a Chinese market. As he strolled by, his body guards patrolled the area along with police, but no one saw him wander under the palate stack. So did I choose the palates? Heck no! I went right for my piano wire garrote to not draw any unwarranted attention and placed his lifeless corpse on the ground, briskly walked away, and was on the other side of the market by the time his body was discovered!
Another thing I enjoyed about this new title was the fact that the AI was NOT omnipotent. No one saw me kill the gangster, so none of the police assumed I was guilty as I walked behind the crime scene and left the demo level.
Absolution is set for a November 20th, 2012 release and I will be picking it up, but probably for PlayStation 3 since it’s more of a single player game. But you can bet your bottom dollar my eyes are going to be on the Leaderboards because the game doles out points for your stealth abilities and how well you can remove a target without detection. Day 1. Hitman. Be there!
