If you haven’t been reading Punk Rock Jesus from Sean Murphy, you’ve A.) just not heard about it, or B) it’s bouts with different religious standards has offended you in some way. If you have been reading it, and stuck with it however, you’ve been rewarded with more and more goodies each issue.

Punk Rock Jesus is filled with continuous sorrow, but nothing like you’ll see in issue 4. I almost teared up a little at the loss of lives, yes lives, in this issue. If you thought Punk Rock Jesus was getting real before, you haven’t seen anything yet. What you do get to see though finally, is an actual punk rock Jesus. Get ready for the revolution to begin, and prepare for a gigantic change in the next two issues of the series.

This series is one of the best I’ve read in months, and I’ve read a lot of great books. What Sean Murphy brings to the table is this haunting realism, a thought that all of this could happen in the near future. It’s the thought in the back of your head saying, “How much of this is happening now?” It’s a hardcore book that deserves a lot of praise, and I hope it’s getting the attention it deserves. My only real disappointment with this months book was really only with DC Comics slapping a big Arrow advertisement banner across the top of the book. I like a good clean cover, and I feel that advertisement defaced the cover in a way. It’s subtle, but an eyesore none the less.
